Protest at Maitighar Mandala Against the Proposed Merger of the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens
A protest was held today at Maitighar Mandala, where we joined voices to express our serious concern and strong objection to the proposed plan to merge the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens with other ministries.
Sunita Foundation firmly believes that this decision is unacceptable in any form. At a time when women, children, and senior citizens continue to face systemic inequality, violence, and exclusion, weakening a dedicated ministry is a regressive step. Instead of merging or diminishing its role, the Ministry must be strengthened with adequate resources, institutional capacity, clear structure, and authority to ensure it can effectively serve those it is mandated to protect.
Any decision that undermines women’s rights, social justice, and hard-earned democratic gains must be immediately withdrawn. We strongly urge the Government of Nepal to reconsider and reverse this proposal without delay.
