National Community Mental Health Conference Held in Kathmandu

The National Community Mental Health Conference was successfully held in Kathmandu under the theme “No Health Without Optimal Mental Health.” organized by Tarangini Foundation, with Sunita Foundation co-organizing along side several partner organizations with shared goals. The conference highlighted the crucial role of mental wellbeing in overall public health.
The inaugural session was addressed by Dr. Sudha Sharma, Minister for Health and Population, she emphasized integrating mental health into primary healthcare and national policies, urging that it be treated as a national priority amid growing social and psychological challenges.
The two-day conference brought together mental health professionals, policymakers, civil society organizations, and students to share knowledge and promote collaboration, with special attention on children and adolescent mental health and its long-term social and economic impact.
At the conclusion of the conference, a 16-point declaration was adopted, addressing all the key issues raised over the two days, setting a roadmap for strengthening community mental health systems and ensuring inclusive, rights-based care across Nepal.
